Product description
Designed for early primary classrooms, the Computer Science & AI Year 1–3 kit introduces Key Stage 1 pupils to foundational computational thinking, sequencing and early artificial intelligence literacy. Curriculum-aligned learning units use storytelling, familiar LEGO bricks and age-appropriate challenges to help young learners decompose problems and construct simple algorithms.
Combining simple hardware—including a Single Motor, Colour Sensor and Connection Card—with the web-based Coding Canvas app, pupils progress from physical manipulation to Icon and Word-based block coding. Using device cameras as visual sensors, students explore computer vision in a safe, privacy-first environment with local data processing. With zero student logins required via the frictionless “Lesson PIN” system, teachers can launch hands-on computing lessons instantly backed by full Teacher Portal unit plans.
Units
LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI Year 1–3 comes with 30 enquiry-based lessons across 6 structured units, including 24 core 45-minute sessions and 6 multi-session Design Challenges out of the box!

The Computer Science & AI Year 1–3 kit (#45520) is designed for Key Stage 1 (Ages 5–7 / Years 1–2). It introduces young pupils to basic algorithms, sequence logic, events, hardware inputs and safe computer vision.
No, pupils do not need user accounts, email addresses, or personal logins. Students simply enter a 4-digit “Lesson PIN” projected on the teacher’s board into the web-based Coding Canvas app to load their lesson instantly.
AI concepts are explored locally on the device using basic computer vision without cloud data processing. The device camera acts as a visual sensor to recognise physical triggers, keeping student camera data 100% private and GDPR-compliant.
